Other News

As well as arranging, leading and taking part in walks, the Society members have other associated interests, and also often become involved in other aspects of the community where it directly or indirectly aids or benefits the activities of the Society.

Here are just a few examples:

Malvern Hills District Footpath Society Carols Walk

An Annual Event

Carols 2013The 2013 carol service for local walking groups was held on Saturday 14th December. Just under a 100 walkers from Ledbury, Bromsgrove, Worcester and our own Society walked the footpaths in the Severn Stoke area before assembling with friends at St Denys Church, Severn Stoke for a most enjoyable service of carols, readings and thoughts about Christmas organised by Lyn Everitt and led by Reverend Mark Badger with our own Sally Linsey playing the organ. The day finished with homemade hot soup provided by Rosie Styles, and mince pies, sausage rolls and hot drinks by members of the Society.

Carol Service and Walks 12th December 2015

A huge “Thank You” to everyone who supported the Carol Service (our ninth) on the 12th December 2015 at St. Denys, Severn Stoke. We are particularly grateful to those who led walks, who read for us, for all the mince pies and sausage rolls and to those who helped on the day. As last year there were about 100 people in the church and a good number of these had participated in the walks. Rosie’s soup was delicious and Sally’s organ playing as excellent as ever. The collection raised just over £200.00 for St. Denys for which the PCC is extremely grateful. So far this year the church is floodfree – long may it continue. So, see you all next year?

Book of photos donated by author

Malvern Hills District Footpath Society member Mike Smart published a book of evocative photographs of the Malvern Hills in June 2009. Mike kindly donated a signed copy of the book to the Society which was won in a free membership draw by Adrian Fray. Adrian is seen in the attached photo with the book against a backdrop of the Malvern Hills.

Air Ambulance visit

Eight members of the Malvern Hills District Footpath Society visited the Midlands Air Ambulance at Strensham on Monday July 13 2009. Society members have been voluntarily giving small change for charity on each of the the Society's walks since 2006. At that time the Society agreed to make voluntary charity collections of 'small change' from members on each of their walks. At the end of the first year it was decided that the money from these collections should go to The County Air Ambulance. In that first year we collected £385.00. By 2009 the total had risen to over £1200. Since then the scheme has grown from strength to strength and at the Society’s AGM held on the 14th March 2012 it was announced that the year’s collection amounted to the sum of £805.04. The total amount raised over the six years now stands at £3,244.81 and members of the Society have voted overwhelmingly in favour of continuing with the collections.
